THE NEW YEAR MYTH – A THOUGHT

‘What changes between 31 December and 1 January? Absolutely nothing, zilch! Undoubtedly, the change in a calendar year is a strong reminder that we are left with lesser number of years before the end of our journey. So, what do we really celebrate on the eve of a new year? Do we celebrate the passing away of a (difficult?) year – i.e. lessening of the burden of life? Is living life so difficult? Or, do we celebrate a hope for a better year ahead? In essence, doesn’t each morning give us a new lease of life? Shouldn’t we celebrate each morning as soon as we realise that we are still alive to do things that we want to do? Just a thought!’ … Bill K Koul
